Sometimes our adventures take quite unexpected turns. So it was that one night, a short stint to Alton in Hampshire turned into a car-based journey through every station along England’s south-west main line between Basingstoke and Wimbledon (and a few more besides) . The endeavour was only halted by the late-night closure of Wimbledon station.
